If a psychologist, psychotherapist or psychiatrist's therapy process stagnates, the experiential character of music therapy can intensify and accelerate the therapy process.

Music intensifies feelings so that there can be better contact with the inner world of subconscious feelings. Recognizing them and expressing them can have a clarifying and liberating effect. This applies, for example, to clients who are less able to express their feelings and to clients who use words to repel their feelings.

For clients with early personality disorders, music therapy offers an unique approach because it is possible to work on a preverbal level. Therefore musictherpay sometimes is called ‘mother-therapy’.

Within the ‘GGZ standard’, music therapy is a common treatment for a large group of disorders.

Multidisciplinary collaboration in the Municipal Health Service

Before starting my own music therapy practice in Zuidwolde/Groningen in 2013, I spent 10 years at GGZ Drenthe gaining experience with various target groups. In my opinion, multidisciplinary work has great value. That is why I am pleased with the close cooperation I have now with self-employed psychologists, psychotherapists and psychiatrists. They hire me as a co-practitioner. It offers the possibility to provide customization and holding when it comes to more complex psychiatric problems.

I am a member of two different professional associations (FVB and NFG) and meet all the requirements imposed by them:

- Training and courses
- Intervision
- Supervision
- Practical Visitation
- Complaints Committee
- Recording quality register, etc.

I am bound by the complaint and disciplinary law of FVB, RBCZ and NFG.
